Day trips to seafaring adventures...
For a day's adventure, the Camden area has everything the coastal outdoors can offer. Cruise Penobscot Bay on a classic schooner, hike Mt. Battie for beautiful panoramas, or see the water up close on a kayak. Take a guided fishing trip on Lake Megunticook, or join a Maine lobsterman on his boat and see how his traps are hauled. The Maine adventure is yours to create from an endless list of great activities on the water, in the mountains or on nearby islands.
Day Trips from the Inn
When you visit us at the Inn you can experience the ocean and the natural beauty that surrounds us. Exploring nearby coastal towns can provide a day's adventure as well and we are the perfect departure point to visit many beautiful and historical parts of Maine.
Popular day trips just within an hour or two include the Castine and Blue Hill area, Deer Isle and Stonington, and Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Pemaquid Point's lighthouse is a wonderful spot to take memorable photos, or explore the quaint shops in Boothbay Harbor, just a little more than an hour south of the Inn. In Freeport, the outlets beckon you to search for a bargain and visit the famous L.L. Bean store.
Being so centrally located, the Inn at Ocean's Edge is a perfect spot to be your "base" during your Maine vacation. Return to the Inn after your day excursion to relax in your room or by the pool. It's the perfect way to end a wonderful Maine day.
A golfer's dream-eighteen holes with stunning scenery along the water's edge. Bring along your clubs for a relaxing game at one of several courses nearby in Rockland and Northport. Courses provide rentals, driving ranges and putting greens along with nine and eighteen-hole courses. Call ahead and we are happy to arrange your tee time for a fantastic golfing experience.
We are happy to arrange for bicycles to be delivered directly to the Inn for your use during your stay with us. Whether you are an avid bicyclist or just want to tour the area from a different point of view, there are many opportunities for riding in the Camden-Rockport area. Take your bikes on the ferry to Islesboro, just a 20 minute ride over to the popular summer retreat where you can explore hidden beaches, a historical lighthouse and charming Maine cottages.
Adventure on The High Seas
Opportunities for adventures on the ocean and nearby lakes are endless at the Inn at Ocean's Edge. Sail away on one of the historic schooners that depart from Camden and Rockport Harbors up to five times a day from Memorial Day to October. Join a local lobsterman to pull his traps and learn about the history of this much-loved crustacean. Hop in a kayak with a guide or, for the more experienced, bring your own kayak to launch from nearby Lincolnville Beach.
Fishing enthusiasts will enjoy a guided trip on scenic Lake Megunticook with a licensed Maine angler catching bass, rainbow and brown trout. Private sails on classic schooners are available with local captains.
Whether you'd like to view lighthouses and wildlife or relax on a romantic sunset cruise with wine and hors d'oeuvres, we can help arrange the adventure you choose.
From the center of Camden the hills seem to rise up directly out of the sea, creating a dramatic view that is even more beautiful when you see it from the top. Camden Hills State Park provides a wide range of trails from moderate to more challenging terrain. The entrance to the park is just three miles from the Inn at Ocean's Edge and it is only from the top of Mount Battie that can you truly appreciate the unique nature of the rugged Maine coastline.
If you like to get off the beaten path our innkeepers are happy to direct you to Mount Megunticook and Bald Rock, with moderately difficult trails just a few miles from the Inn.
For exercise, pleasure and stunning photo opportunities, the effort is always worth the view in Camden and Lincolnville.
